Neo Ventilator 2: fast / slow speed control
.. using a sustain footswitch ..

Overview:
I needed a simple interface to allow my Yamaha sustain footswitch to simultaneously control the fast/slow speed of my Neo Vent 2 - as well as continuing to perform its original function - when connected to my Yamaha YC61....
I decided that the following parameters were required:

• None of the devices involved (the Vent 2, the YC61 and the Sustain Footswitch) should be modified in any way.
• The interface should be able to work with both 'normally closed' (N/C) and 'normally open' (N/O) external footswitch inputs. (The Yamaha is fitted with a 'N/C' switch)
• The interface needs to completely isolate all connections to both the Vent 2 and the YC61 keyboard from the interface electronics.
• The Vent 2 speed switching should operate whenever the footswitch is pressed (not when it is released ) - regardless of the footswitch polarity.
• The interface electronics should only require a low current (<20mA) 12V DC supply. (Most 'wall wart' type plug in power supplies are suitable)
• The device should be simple, rugged - and cheap!
• All input and output connections should be 1/4" (6.35mm) standard jack sockets, with the exception of the 12V power supply, which should utilise a 2.1mm 'power plug' type socket (centre pin +ve)

Armed with those thoughts, I built a couple of prototypes....
